The Augusta Choral Society will perform Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem on Sunday, March 18th at 7:30pm. This monumental work for chorus, orchestra, and soloists is considered Brahms' greatest choral composition. The performance will feature the Augusta Choral Society chorus and orchestra, conducted by Dr. J. Porter Stokes, and soprano and baritone soloists Tina Milhorn Stallard and Jacob Will.
Ein Deutsches Requiem was composed between 1865 and 1868. The text is not the traditional Latin Mass for the Dead, but rather a collection of Bible verses in German selected by Brahms himself. The work is epic in scope, lasting around 80 minutes, and is filled with beautiful and dramatic music. Especially notable are the soprano solo "Ihr habt nun Traurigkeit" and the baritone solo "Denn alles Fleisch, es ist wie Gras."
Tickets for the performance at the Augusta Sacred Heart Cultural Center in Downtown Augusta, GA start at $35 and are available through the box office and website. Don't miss this opportunity to experience one of the greatest choral works of the Romantic era performed live.
